IHRA rulebook??
«
on:
July 27, 2010, 09:23:06 PM »
I have the 2010 IHRA rulebook downloaded from their site but its a bit confusing in the breakdown in ET and their requirements. Is there a basic guide for 2010 that lists what safety equipment is needed for a certain ET. Im looking for all the requirements to run 10.00 to 10.99 ET.

If it was NHRA I could help, but being IHRA I'm clueless. I would think both sanctioning bodies are similar in safety rules, but I'm subscribing to find out what IHRA requires.

Yeah I have found the NHRA stuff is easy to find, but all 3 of my local tracks are IHRA.

A safe bet would be that they require the same basic safety equipment.

Basic safety rules for 10.00 - 11.49 are on page 79.
Specific stuff like roll cage or roll bar information is strangely scattered about.
Roll bar stuff is on page 101.
General rules start on page 91.
It's nice that you can download this information free, but it is quite disorganized compared to NHRA stuff.
Some of it looks like it was taken right from an NHRA rule book!
Jim, does any of the local tracks you will be running at have the tech requirements on their web sites?
I have 2 NHRA tracks I go to, they both have this listed.
The main track I attend is notorious for lax tech and the other is supposedly real strict.
Oddly enough, the lax track teched my car way more in depth!

Thats exactly the problem Im having is the roll bar specifics are scattered everywhere. I know most of the stuff I will need but there still some grey areas that I havent found yet. I was hoping one of you guys might know of a simpler break down based on et for street cars.

What I wanted to know about the roll bar is if we are allowed to build the "cross brace" out of 3 pieces. Thats how I did mine and the reason for it is I'm 6'3" and in order to clear my helmet with the main hoop is to lay my seal back considerably. I feel that this is the safest way for me if I were to roll the car, otherwise I risk neck injury. My cross brace extends back an additional 4" from the main hoop but has addequite gussets to reinforce it for my shoulder harness mount. I couldnt find anything in the IHRA book that addresses how we can construct that bar. It clearly shows where it needs to be mounted though. I will post some pictures later.

I took some time tonight and did some digging on the IHRA website. It looks like I need to save some money for a few things that I dont have. I need C-clip eliminators, aftermarket axles, SFI balancer, a single layer fire jacket, and a trans shield.

I have been told many times the same thing about street driving with C-clip eliminators.

Well im going to guess its true then.
The other option is 9in ends; which needs to be done by a competent shop (none around here i know of) which is pricey i imagine and may cause problems with brake fitment and/or abs usage.
Im not willing to give up on ABS, i know how i react in certain situations and incase i dont react correctly abs will keep me out the ditch.

I can't speak for IHRA, but NHRA will allow "butt welds" as long as you insert a reinforcement buck and have visible rosette welds holding the buck above and below the welded seam.
My expert unsanctioned advice is, NO that will not pass tech as you have it right now.
