Are you going shorter on the axle? Mini tub?

Yes 2" shorter and I'll be mini tubbing the car. I have the Team Z mounting bracket and mini tub kit. I'm currently on disability. I had shoulder surgery in March. I also had to recently move to an apartment, so once I'm physically able to work again I'll have to find a good friend who will let me work on my car at his house.

I will start a project thread once I start on the car.

    Thanks Mark and Bobby,
I drew myself a load / force diagram and see what you're talking about. Thanks for the education.

Update: Bob Meyer (shop owner) is still waiting on the chromoly tubing for the bottom truss as well as the front braces to get here. I stopped by the shop again today and took some crappy cell phone pics. I really hate how my phone takes pics, but my wife took the digital camera with her to the dairy farm for my sons field trip today. Anyway the coil over shock brackets are now welded up.

Old man can weld that is for sure!!   Did he explain how he was going to make the lower brace?

He sure can...like a machine! Yes, he will be welding a plate to the chromoly tube and then welding the plate to the center section. He will bend the tube upward towards the end of the tubes where they will be bent at an angle welded to each tube. if that makes sense. For some reason he just want to minimize the amount of weld on the tubes. He says it will make them weaker, so he prefers to weld around the diameter of the tube vs an angle cut.

     Mark,
Bob is/was a premier dragster and funny car chassis builder (among other things) since the '70's , so he's had a little practice. LOL He's built several for friends of mine.

Just for comparison, here's how a local guy set up my 8.8 a few years back before I opened the bottle. I don't see many pictures of guys doing the 8.8s up like we have.

I know, I should have gone with 9" ends!

It sounds like you're going to have a bullet proof rear when you're done!

Good to see you posting again Ian...    So how is your car doing?  You were getting the engine refreshed last time i heard anything...

I posted those pics for Bobby on his site when i was trying to talk him into doing the bottom brace lol......  I thought those were Team Z braces?

My car is safely sitting under a tarp for this season. I need to do a few things before I make passes again. Mainly brakes, axles, gearset in the trans, freshen the motor and add a stage or two of spray ;) If I wasn't going to spray it harder, I wouldn't bother with the freshen other than a set of lifters and check the valve springs.

Sadly, I didn't even know about Dave at the time I had this done (2003-4?). Although, Dave said it was great quality work when he saw it :)

I tried to get my password sent to me and it says I'm not a member, but I recall being on the site. Strange.
