I just used a press at the shop I work at. I remember not enjoying doing the c-clip elims and the rear end.

What was the hard part for you red5.0 ? I might work on this job over the weekend. I have the gear oil.. Will any of my old steels and shims work off my 28 spline axles or are they to  small in diameter?

Differential pin becomes the weakest link with a mini spool.

Yep.  My 67 has a mini spool in it now...but I've heard really bad things about them on the street.  Do yourself the favor of a full spool.

That's why I'd opt for the full spool, they are a lot stronger.  The mini spools are designed for dirt track use and are not intended for rock solid hook up.  Saving money is fine, but I wouldn't chance it there.

Oh, the steels and shims should interchange from the 28 to 31.

no ,the eliminators are thick, they bolt up against the backing plate.
from the housing side of the elim to the outside of the flange is a 1/4 thicker,so it spaced the drum out a 1/4 in or so when the drum is slid on.
thats how they came from moser,i can prob. get a pic for you if its not clear how i tried to explain it.
also you throw out the emergency hardware cause it wont clear the elim.

I have the Strange axles and C clip eliminators.  They also push the drums out some but my E-brake cables worked fine.

You know its been so long since I did this, I shouldn't say hard just frustrating. I don't have a lot of patience. I remember there being something I had to line up as I was using the press and it taking me a couple tries. Also when I was in the rearend getting the pinion depth and pinion bearing preload took me multiple tries.
