Just seen no one had posted here so Just thought I post some big block info. 1987 was the last year that Ford produced the big block motors (351/460) with carburetors. Ford switched to fuel injection for the 1998 model year and beyond. The 460 was readily available from older '70s cars and station wagons, but they do not seem to be as well built as truck motors (Has something to do with the oil pan has the sump in the wrong location along with the oil pump?)

The pump has not been moved on these engines.  They are similar to the early small blocks.  That being all early Ford Cars and Trucks required a front sump style oil pan and oil pick up tube.  As time went by, ford started going with rear sump oil pan set ups.   So, all you need to do is run the oil pan and pick up combo that matches the chassis or vehicle you are running.

It is pretty simple, and thrifty junk yard crawlers know what to dig for.  The early 80's and up Crown Vic police packages and wagons that came with a factory 5.8 of 351W have the right oil pan and pick to let you drop on into you fox Mustang.  Also, I believe the 1980 and up F150 that came with 351 and 460 engines will have oil pans and pick ups that allow you to do your swap into a Mustang.

My favorite parts store sometimes is the local Junk yards.  No to mention all the Kick Ass Cleveland stuff I have hauled home!!!!

LOL

Headers 2" super comps
Compression ratio approx 9.5 to 1 , according to srp site
Timing set at 35, which I will play with this weekend.

The shakedown:

altitude - 800 ft , temp around 25 c

First pass shut down past the 1/8 as i was not sure on steering, car stability, etc. PROBABLY more scared than anything not to blow it up as my windsor did last pass out in august of 06

It went 1.43 60 ft, 6.35 in the 1/8th so i knew it was capable of 9/s

Next pass out I thought if she holds past the 1/8 we are going for it, and it was a handful till 300 ft as they werent spraying, rain clouds rolling in.
Went thru the traps at 10.04, 133.4 mph, rpms were at 6600, 1.41 60ft
I was surprised at the rpms, and seeing the mph, the motor looks to be all done at less than 6300. Loose convertor and all, Im putting in 3.27 gears this week to see if it will mph out the top, as I was all done by 1100 feet with 3.73/s

Well that was it, at the track 2 hours and its rained out till next week.

Over all very happy with the motor, tons of torque, have to get used to the lower rpms, but if it will run 9/s this weekend going thru the traps at 6000 rpm, on 92 octane, it will make my year !!!!

Will post results this coming weekend, as i will try the gears, look at jetting, timing, valve lash.
Cant wait.......
